Memorial Day weekend May 28 - 30, 2011 was celebrated at the Santa Cruz Blues Festival 19th annual musical event with food, beer, and wine in Aptos, CA. Or you could choose to attend the Santa Cruz Longboard Club Invitational, West Coast's oldest, longest-running competitive surfing event, featuring amateur and pro surfers May 29th & 30th, 2011 in Santa Cruz, CA.
Summer Ride to Villa Montagne was scheduled for Saturday June 25th, 2011. A 3 hour trail ride started at 10am and concluded the event with a champagne brunch on the veranda overlooking Monterey Bay. Ranch Benedict was served with country potatoes and a delicious assortment of fresh fruit. It is the summer solstice and riders from the local horse community were invited to join.
If wine tasting is of interest, local wineries Big Basin Vineyards, David Bruce, Algren, Byington, Bargetto, and Cinnabar are just a 10 - 40 minute drive from the Villa.
Don't miss the outdoor summer concerts in lovely settings at both Villa Montalvo and the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, only a 30 minute drive. Book early as the tickets sell fast. Past artists appearing at the Winery include the Doobie Brothers, Natalie Merchant, Stan Getz, Chris Isaak, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt and many more.
Jazz on the Plazz featured an line up of Jazz musicians in a free concert held every Wednesday evening 6:30-8:30 June 22nd - August 24th in Los Gatos. If you would rather be on the coast, Twilight Free Concerts in Capitola on Wednesday nights entertain with a variety of rock, reggae, folk, and classical musicians.
Boulder Creek Fourth of July parade features local floats and clubs represented, followed by a fireworks display on the beach in Santa Cruz.
The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance draws car enthusiasts August 17 - 21, 2011. This is an antique car show about a 90 minute drive down the coast to Pebble Beach from the Villa.
Fall brings warm days and the 24th Annual Capitola Art & Wine Festival at Capitola Village Saturday & Sunday, September 10 & 11, 2011; 10:00 - 6:00 pm.
Halloween night locals and visitors fill the streets of Boulder Creek in costume and enjoy a celebration in town while the shops stay open late to hand out treats.
Should you want to head inland, pay a visit to the town of Saratoga just a 25 minute drive, or a little further to Palo Alto, Portola Valley or Atherton. You will find a list of things to do including the Stanford concert series or Stanford athletic events.
There is always something special to do nearby in San Francisco, a 90 minute drive from the Villa via Skyline Blvd.
